Ray is the Chairman of the Board of Cadence Design Systems. Prior to becoming Chairman, Ray served as Cadence's President & Chief Executive Officer from April 1999 through May 2004 and as Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer from 1993 until April 1999. He was elected to the Cadence Board of Directors in 1998. Additionally, Ray is Vice Chairman (formerly Chairman) of the Board of the Electronic Design Automation Consortium, an association consisting of over 100 EDA companies.
Prior to joining Cadence in 1993, Ray served as Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer for eight years at Red Lion Hotels. Previously, Ray was based in The Hague, Netherlands, where he was Managing Director of Agrico Overseas Investment Company, a subsidiary of Williams Companies, Inc. Ray draws additional experience from the Marriott Corporation, where he served as Assistant Treasurer and Vice President, Project Finance.
In addition to Cadence, Ray currently serves on the Board of Directors for Freescale Semiconductor, Inc., KLA-Tencor Corporation, Oracle Corporation, and several private companies.
Ray received a Bachelor of Science degree in Economics from Weber State University and holds an M.B.A. from the Harvard Business School.
Don is a true veteran of the venture capital business with well over 40 years of experience as an active investor and board member. He made his first investment in 1957, raising half of the initial equity financing for National Semiconductor Corporation. Don began his career in the corporate finance department of Smith Barney & Co.
Before becoming an individual venture capital investor, Don was a General and Limited Partner of Draper, Gaither & Anderson (DG&A), the first west coast venture capital firm. DG&A distributed its assets in 1966, realizing an excellent return for its partners. Since that time, Don has been actively engaged in venture capital activities both as an individual and as General Partner of Sand Hill Financial Company, a partnership backed by family and friends.
Following his initial investments in numerous early-stage companies, Don has played an active role in building these businesses into prominent industry leaders. Don served as Chairman of the Board of Cadence Design Systems, Inc. from 1988 through May 2004. From its inception in 1983 until 1987, Don served as Chairman of the Board of SDA Systems, Inc., a predecessor of Cadence. Don currently serves as a Director for Cadence Design Systems, Inc., Dexcom, Inc., 51job, Inc., Macromedia, Inc., Oracle Corporation, PDF Solutions, Inc., and several private companies.
Don is actively involved in educational and community programs. He is a Trustee of the University of Santa Clara. He received his Bachelor of Arts degree from Stanford University and his M.B.A. from Stanford's Graduate School of Business.
Lip-Bu is Chairman and founder of the venture capital firm Walden International and has been active in the venture capital industry for the past two decades. Additionally, he introduced and pioneered the U.S. venture capital concept in Asia and contributed towards the promotion of early-stage technology investing in the Asia-Pacific region. Prior to Walden International, he was Vice President at Chappell & Co. and held management positions at EDS Nuclear and ECHO Energy.
Lip-Bu is a board member of Cadence Design Systems, Inc., Centillium Communications, Inc., Creative Technology Ltd., Flextronics International Ltd., Integrated Silicon Solutions, Inc., Leadis Technology, Inc., Semiconductor Manufacturing International Corporation, SINA Corporation, and several private companies. In addition he serves as a board member of the National Venture Capital Association, and as a member of the Visiting Committee for the Department of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, and a member of the Committee of 100.
Lip-Bu holds a B.S. in Physics from Nanyang University in Singapore, an M.S. in Nuclear Engineering from Massachusetts Institute of Technology, and an M.B.A. from the University of San Francisco.
